About 30-35 microns long. Theca looks smooth as an egg shell. Epitheca larger than hypotheca. Red eyespot in the sulcus - makes sense, as this is the seat of the flagella too. Marked phototropism leading to dense congregation on the slide. Apparently, you can collect dense samples by shining a flashlight into the pond at night.
Note: the still image is of a cell from a sample treated with soda water, which loosened its theca.

This was a small, shallow pond with a red bloom, spotted while passing on the road. Thinking it was some sort of paint spill, we stopped to take a surface sample.
