The presence of solifuges in Lampedusa island (Strait of Sicily) has been discovered for the first time in 1956. Since then, no more findings occurred until recently, when after a targeted search we were able to rediscover e redefine the identity of Lampedusa' solifuges and give a first assessment on their ecological preferences.
The results were just published on the European Zoological Journal:
Technique: I found this Flower Chafer Beetle covered in pollen and shot it by grabbing onto the flower and forcing it to come up behind the critter so I could use it to keep the background from being black. Then I just rested the lens on that same hand to keep everything steady.
Tech Specs: Canon 70D (F11, 1/250, ISO 100) + a Canon MP-E 65mm macro lens (around 3.5x) + a diffused MT-24EX (-1 1/3 FEC). This is a single, uncropped, frame taken hand held.
Brown Anole vs Rhysida longipes
The first thing that popped into my head when I saw this Long Horned Beetle was that it looked like an Ox.
Found this one slowly emerging from its molt. Very excited to have found this at the right time.
