I tried to pick up one of these little beasties a couple of years ago when it was singing in my outside covered porch area and I got a blood letting bite for my troubles. I vaguely recall some discussion on this site a while back about this being an Australian species.

Description

In one of the channels, in the Avon Heathcote Estuary.

It appears to be living in a hollow piece of wood.

There is a short video of it at https://vimeo.com/220172968

Especially difficult to get photos of its tail since as soon as the tail appeared it was darting away at speed.

Description

In a rock pool, amongst seaweed.
Only about 1-2 cm long.

Appeared to be carrying a tube around with it like a caddisfly - but the body looks more like a shrimp, especially the tail.

There is a short video at https://vimeo.com/189730506
