Northern Shrike (Lanius borealis)Observer

Large, long-tailed shrike; brownish gray on back, pale buffy gray on breast with fine vermiculation; heavy hooked bill (blocked by a twig in my only image); dark mask only rearward from eye. First image is cropped from digiscoped pic with 20X scope and Canon PowerShot camera (2nd image).
First found by Tim Fennell on Wednesday and subsequently seen and documented by numerous birders (with much better images than mine). See eBird for all the recent reports and images:

First Williamson County record and first in the Austin area in about 48 years (last: 1973).

Found this little guy busily starting a nest in someone's helmet. They didn't get very far as this was the staff lot so we were able to warn the owner they were about to be an unwitting landlord.
