Common yew is a rare tree, thus protected and obviousely confined to regions with limestone, often growing on rocks with strong roots to anchor them therein.
This tree is female with seeds covered partially by red fleshy sweet mantles (arillus/i) which is not poisenous as the rest of the tree and can be eaten by humans as well.
