Description
In the backyard of a home formerly occupied by the caretaker of Laurel Hill Cemetery. Likely an ornamental cultivar, but possibly a species that occurred within the former cemetery grounds (which also featured the Franciscan and Raven's manzanitas). According to Tom Parker, possibly a subspecies of Arctostaphylos bakeri.

By the early 2000's, this was the last remnant location of Artemisia californica in the Presidio. Since then, it has been planted abundantly in many locations for both habitat restoration and native plant landscaping.

Description
This is a massive, very very old U. californica growing on a westward-facing slope along the Bobcat Trail in the Marin Headlands.
For reference, the black shoe shown in several photos is almost exactly 11 inches long.
There is not just the massive primary trunk, but also massive secondary trunks which emerge from the ground several feet away as pictured.
The last image in the sequence shows part of the crown as visible from the Bobcat Trail as you pass it.
This massive U. californica is on par with the Jepson Laurel near Crystal Springs in San Mateo.
