immature, prob HERG but hoping for LBBG reported today
Immatutre, hoping for LBBG reported earlier today
Ring-billed Gull 2nd Winter, or possible Herring Gull?
1 Perched on rock mid-river, 3 flying overhead
Continuing bird at this location, bulkier than adjacent HERG, dark scapulars, thick all black bill, smudgy eye. Head oddly dusky but "probably just dirty because structurally looks good for GBBG", per Clinton. Reported by Mike H earlier this week.
Edit: I sent this bird to MN Gull experts Mike Hendrickson, Clinton Dexter-Nienhaus, and Ezra Hosch; who all independently concured that this was a 1st cycle GBBG.
the larger bird. dark back and pink legs distinguish this from lesser black backed gull and herring gull.
