Possibly a red-tailed hawk? It was eating an animal along a walking path; it looked like a small dead bird, but I didn't get close enough to see clearly.

A white shark approximately 14 feet long was observed approximately 20 yards off Rio Del Mar. Authorities recommended staying out of the water and posted warnings. No encounters were reported. It is common for white sharks to swim off our coastline and encounters with humans are extremely rare.

A man who was bitten by a shark while surfing off the Northern California coast over the weekend is expected to survive.
Samoa Peninsula Fire District Chief Dale Unea said the man was bitten on the upper left thigh Sunday morning near Humboldt Bay close to Eureka, KTVU-TV reported.
The man, whose identity was not released, paddled to shore and met rescue crews about 8:45 a.m. He was aided by other surfers, who wrapped his wound and kept him warm.
The injury was minor, authorities said, and the man is expected to survive.
Another surfer, Scott Stephens, also survived a shark attack in the same area last year.
