Glossy Black Cockatoo (Calyptorhynchus lathami)

Observer

Date

Description

Heard and observed this family of three, consisting of both parents and one juvenile feeding in grove of she oaks. Contact calling wth other Glossy Black Cockatoos heard in nearby stands of she oaks. These birds has been repeatedly observed in this forest over the past few years, more so now after the Coolagalite fires, which destroyed much of their feeding habitats along Nutleys Creek. Clearly this vital feeding area needs safeguarding.

Bodalla Silver Wattle (Acacia silvestris)

Observer

Date

Description

There has always been a big patch of scrub dominated by this species on the rocky west-facing slope of the Brogo Pass. It is putting on a helluva show flowering this season, and plants are also evident in a gully on the east-facing slope too (photo 4). After the millenium drought it seemed to have thinned out quite a bit, but is back in full strength now, and more abundant above the highway on the east-facing slope than it used to be.
