Found in the swamp a few yards.
A few yards from PROW Box 11A.
Some plants of Lance-leafed Water Willow (host plant) a few feet away.
Found near PROW Box-11A.
Another Seminole found at this same location 40 minutes before did not show the wing damage seen on this one.
Found first by Carol & Jeff Newell. On the Outerloop Trail, near Wood Duck Deck.
The Seminole waited near the same location, for me to arrive and get these pictures.
Another “irruption” of Seminole Crescents at Bluebonnet Swamp on Saturday, 6/24/2023!!
The ones that I saw and heard of were all observed near the Visitor Center in at the edge of and in Patch #1 of Loose-flowered Water-willows, a common host plant for these crescents.
This is near Bird Netting Net #1.
The first two sightings were by “muchio” and already reported to iNat.
These were observed at 1:00 & 2:00 PM.
“muchio” mentioned his findings to Sean Golden. Sean found a third one at about 2:15 and called me at home and I arrived at about 2:30 PM. The Seminole Crescent waited until I arrived!
While I took pictures, Sean spotted 2 more … and then we found and documented a total of 8 in a period of about 15 minutes. We saw 2 or 3 more, but no pictures of those.
All the individuals were in good shape – no wing damage.
Suggesting that maybe they all recently came out of their cocoons (eclosed) (??).
All the 8 that were observed and photoed by Sean & I will be reported separately to iNat.
