Couldn't quite get a good photo of these interesting mating flies, which seem to have a dark margin along the wings?
Wasn't able to get wing venation.
Posted photos as I liked the bubbling behavior it captured. I've read one reason flies may do this is to cool down. And yet it was a cool day.
On a low, lichen covered branch of a coastal live oak near Ft. Ord. The fly was moving its wings around, which was pretty neat.
After taking the first five photos with my phone (and macro lens attachment) I left and got another camera that has a macro lens, but no flash.
All these photos were in the exact same area, but since they are 6min later, conceivably it could be a different fly. However, I assume it is the same fly as I was there for a while prior to leaving and didn't see any other fly (though this fly is small). I include the last two photos in case bristles are of interest. But can move them or delete them from this post if someone things that is a best.
