Fungus found near dead tree along with unidentified moss species. Other plant species common in area.
Pileus: 7cm diameter, 2.5 cm tall. convex shape with smooth surface. straight Cap margin. Yellowish brown color overall, brown spots and pits scattered across. Soft and squishy with a fleshy consistency.
Hymenophore: poreus, yellow-green in color, 1 cm long. noted purple bruising upon cut.
Stipe: 1cm diameter, 4.5 cm tall. Red coloration internally
Spore print: Present, brownish-yellow in color.
Microscopic Observations: oval shaped spores, yellow in color

Description

Waxy, yellow, ellipsoidal to hemispherical pilea (some slightly depressed or concave). Stipe is identical in texture and color.

Pilea range from 0.5 to 2 cm in diameter. Stipes range from 1.5 to 2.5 cm in length.

Basidiomata found in grounded troops growing in soil and moss substrate. Surrounded by sparse shrubbery and maple (Acer) trees.

Hymenium close, beige, decurrent gills.

A richer orange color when dried, including beige gills.

No spore print produced.

Description

Small brown capped mushrooms with cream colored spots on the cap and a cream colored stipe. Gills under the cap, growing out of moss or soil, waxy texture, no odor, some liquid when disturbed.

No annulus or volva found. Found one growing alone, two smaller ones growing together. Larger mushroom had a stipe length of 6 cm and a cap diameter of 3.5cm. The smaller ones had a stipe length of 3.5cm and a cap diameter of 1.5 cm

Location: On trail, forest loop
Pileus:
planar with central bump, light brown in color with wrinkles closer to edges, pileus malleable, rubbery texture on surface, moist
Diameter - 10 cm (large for species)
Width - 1 cm
Lamellae: Cream thick gills, crowded, turn brown upon bruising, notched attachment
Spores: globose (lemon shaped), colorless, smooth, pure white spore print
Odor: Standard
Stipe:
slightly swollen at base, root structure penetrates below (pseudorhiza), white with brown staining, slightly rough (fibrillose)
Diameter - 1 cm
Length - 18 cm
Habitat: Soil substrate with leaf litter surrounding, near tree root structure.
Observations: Hollow stipe, may be due to predation. Stipe easily snaps.
