This seems to be a leucistic species. I originally thought sparrow, but a lot of people have convinced me that it is a finch. Without the normal coloration it's amazing how hard this is to pin down. American Goldfinch, Pine Siskin, and Lesser Goldfinch seem to be the most popular suggestions. I think I am liking Lesser Goldfinch, but I am waiting for the experts to weight in! Be sure to see the 2nd photo!
I'm trying to figure out what kind of humming bird this is. There sometimes seems to be a separation of the the feathers on the gorget and the head and neck, like a Calliope which is not expected around here. the wings seem shorter than the tail, ect.
I really only see Anna's and Allen's Hummingbirds, so I usually end up finding out my my humming birds photos are one of those (again!)
Rough photo, more to document time and location. Falcon seen in profile from roughly 700 ft flying ~NE. Brown upper parts, white under parts, no strong field marks, no strong mask, tail a bit paler than dorsal. Wings not quite as pointed as PEFA. Rapid, almost floppy wing beats, at least for a falcon. Bird was flying below eye level for so difficult to see the axillaries. A PRFA has been recorded in this area twice, and possibly three times. This would be the fourth. Flew off towards Twin Peaks.
