Possibly juvenile, close to flying, spotted by front door in neighborhood. Has since been seen around flying. Its nesting season.
With Valeri Ponzo; a successful search for the Brewer's Blackbirds that had been recently reported on eBird. After we spent more than 30 minutes along Rabon Road seeing no icterids, and mindful of the time, we decided to drive around looking for better blackbird habitat. As soon as we reached Piney Wood Road, our expectations improved, and once we found an icterid flock at a dairy at its junction with Ransom Road, we knew we had found the spot. The weather was lightly foggy and cool, with a light breeze. We left at 0935 and headed to St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge.
With Valeri Ponzo; a great visit (as always) even though we were unsuccessful at finding any Nelson's Sparrows for Val's year list. An unexpected bonus was finding Lucy and Bob Duncan with son Will and his family at Twin Dikes; I purchased their recent book, which they graciously signed. We probably spent half of our time walking the coastal trail through the Spartina east of the lighthouse, with the rest of our time scoping ducks at Lighthouse Pool and Picnic Pond, and maybe 10 minutes at Twin Dikes. The weather was sunny, mild, and breezy; the tide was quite low, which should have enabled us to find Nelson's Sparrows readily. We left at 1342 and headed to Gainesville.
