From the sandy bottom in Hook Creek, in a bit of a hole. It's a small perennial clear running creek. I looked at several clam shells while wading, but was surprised this one was very much alive. After quick photographs I carefully placed it where it was before (about 10" deep in fairly strong current).

An empty shell found on the bed of a small sand-bottomed, clear running creek. Not sure what to make of it, but I saw only one living large clam. Maybe they are all buried in the sand? Or perhaps they are passing into oblivion. I returned the empty shell where I found it.
