Seedpods on creek bank
Pioneer groundcover plant growing in poor, dry soil in full sun at Horseshoe Farm in east Wake county. Narrow, pointed green leaves arranged in whorls on tender, green stems. Small, yellow flowers with lobed petals and yellow domed center.
Tall, crooked, leaning tree with dark furrowed bark on trunk and long, green, shiny leaves arranged alternately on branch. Leaves curl some at the tips. Located on ridge above the Neuse River along greenway trail. Alternate branching. Panicles of white, bell shaped flowers at the end of branches hanging in the sun.
