Flowers are at least 1 foot tall, on the tall end of what I have seen before. Common locally though most are more stunted looking. Many have their flower spikes neatly clipped off, presumably by some rodent.
One of the lowest plants on the trail. Increasingly common with elevation gain (and increasingly barren serpentine).
Common on upper half of Longs Pass Trail.
Common on much of Iron Peak trail, especially on serpentine scree.
Common on Iron Peak serpentine.

white leaf margins and rolled leaf tips with conspicuous ligules. densely cespitose with few flowering spikelets.
Horrid common name; try tall wheatgrass instead.
