Quite large narrow-waisted wasp with a long ovopositor digging its burrow. The wings "buzz" series are emitted when digging at the bottom of the burrow. We can also hear the wasp dropping shovelfuls of sand in flight 3 to 4 seconds after each digging period (buzz serie). Note that we can barely hear it fly during the sand dropping, while the digging buzzes are clearly audible.
The wasp did this manoeuvre (digging+dropping sand) 7 times before flying away.
Nest and picture of a Wood mouse.
In a rarely used kitchen (in a country house).
The nest was dug in a old sliced bread loaf. To make the "straw" the Wood mouse split used matches.
