Description

This one was exciting to get a photo of. I've seen a few glimpses of them on telephone poles while driving through the area, but I never managed to get a photo until this particular trip. This was the second one I photographed, after this younger one on a chicken coop. I didn't recognize the juvenile at first, partly because I was distracted trying to chase it away from the chickens, but the adult in this observation was unmistakable. Glad I stopped to check what was on this tree; I thought it was a vulture on first glance, from how dark it was and how far away I was at the time, but that yellow beak gave it away as soon as I put the lens on it. I'd been hunting a Harris' Hawk to photograph for the entire trip, as I once again saw half a second worth of one on the drive up.
