Potentially a male attracting a female?
This male trailed this female while we watched with a 300 mm lens. The majority of the time was spent tail straddling, matching her step for step. At one point she raised her tail in his face. She found herself in a juniper cul-de-sac, when she turned around he grabbed her by the nuchel fold. She gaped, bucked and kicked him off. All very interesting but after more than an hour his advances appear to have been rebuffed, though he was persisting and we left them alone to find a place to spend the night before it got cold.
Skin damage like this is common when they first emerge
Interesting eye damage
Please pardon the exposure, there is an issue with my camera
