Visual: The head and thorax of this carpenter ant was a reddish-brown color while its abdomen was black. This was the queen ant, specifically a dealate queen (no wings), when I compared its size to the other ants around it. This ant in particular was roughly 15mm in length with 6 legs and 2 antennae.
Habitat: I found this ant in the coastal suburbs crawling in and out of the wood fence near where there was rotting wood the day prior. Behind this fence there is lots of shrubbery, a small pond, and newly cut tree stumps. These ants can be found geographically throughout Florida and all the way North to North Carolina and as far west as Mississippi.
