I believe this is a cryptantha.
Identified with a key and dissecting microscope in the office.
Ok, what is this? I am not seeing suggestions that match. It’s not one of the poppies, because the stem comes up from a set of round flat thick basal leaves, instead of feathery gray leaves. Blossoms are much smaller than a sun cup (which is seen in the right). The second pic shows my hand, partly for scale, and partly to hold the little things still in the wind. The app also suggests “wild buckwheats,” but I don’t see any that match.
