Species: Vespula germanica
Two pairs of membranous wings linking together with hamuli. The forewings are larger than the hindwings and both pairs have reduced venation. There is a distinct waist between the abdomen and thorax. The mouth manifests as chewing mandibles.
Bright yellow and black banded abdomen with black spots on each band. The three pairs of legs are also bright yellow. Clear wings and long black antennae.
The wasp was found deceased outside on the pavement under the veranda in the afternoon. The nest was unable to be located.
