This adult male olive-backed sunbird showed yellow underparts with a dull brown back feathers. Its throat and breast is a dark, metallic blue-black, differentiating it from a female. It also has a thin black beak that has been adapted to suck nectar from flowers. It was seen flying around the flowers with its female partner, drinking from the flowers.
