Location is approximate.
Elevated to species status by the Flora of N. America treatment: S. scopulorum:
-Leaf tips and sporophyll tips attenuate (taper smoothly to tip);
-sporophylls lanceolate with margins ciliate proximally but with no cilia distally, and with a pale, milky-coloured aspect;
-leaf tip and sporophyll tip bristles white and relatively short (~ 0.2-0.6 mm long), and nearly smooth (not much puberulent;
-leaf margin cilia ~ 0.1 mm long max and appressed to ascending distally, not spreading or if so only proximally;
-upperside stem leaf is shorter than lowerside stem leaf, and leaf bases are decurrent on stem (trying to show this in the last 2 photos, it's hard!);
-approx. 1400 m elevation in the mountains on gritty soil.
No field pics. Sample collected by permit.

-leaf tip bristles white and consistently long, 1-1.2 mm;
-leaf margin cilia ~ 0.1 mm long and appressed to ascending, if spreading then only proximally;
-upperside stem leaf is shorter than lowerside stem leaf (sorry, not great pics, esp. of decurrent bases);
-grassland/prairie habitat.
Sample collected by permit. Unfortunately it's not fertile.
