-Around 4 and a half inches tall
-stem has no leaves
-stem changes from reddish brown (bottom) to green right before the flower
Honey bee enjoying a 15 mg shot of pollen.
Plant found in neighborhood
It’s dormant. There are no flowers right now. Spring will come in March according to Ground Hog’s Day. The cactus will bloom and set fruit from early spring through the summer, depending on the variety. http://sfp.ucdavis.edu/pubs/brochures/Pricklypear/

This tree was in between the park lots and the entrance head quarters of the Texas Parks and Wildlife building.
In front of the main entrance of the Texas Park and Wildlife Headquarter of Texas. The mocking bird is sitting on a spineless pickle pear cactus (Opuntia ellisiana). Texas Park and Wildlife State Agency’s Austin Headquarters. These birds are very territorial. The same bird came back on the cactus about a few weeks later after I took this picture.
