Rhizomatous, sheaths not ladder -fibrillose.
Could this be an abnormal growth of red clover???
Or is this Achlorophyllous vegetative growth of some sort... Mycoheterotrophic plant maybe??
Cypripedium nearby; leaves look like it a bit. But if red clover flower is magnified, its florets also look like this...
Found in the middle of the road, with another one (presumably a sibling) dead on the side. This little guy was immediately taken to a wildlife rehab center.
UPDATE (June 25, 2024): This opossum is in good health and is now being released back into the wild.
