A Walk Around the Reservoir

This past Sunday, I was excited to go on my first nature walk with two of my roommates around the lovely reservoir right next to our campus! As we walked around, I managed to find many interesting organisms as I avoided joggers to take these photos. I thought I found what looked like a Japanese Maple tree, but was pretty sure it would not be native to the area and this tree looks wild. iNaturalist was struggling to name it as well, so I am curious to see if it can be IDed. We also saw what I believed to be a hawk fly overhead, but was unable to photograph it. The weather was starting to heat up as we wrapped around the reservoir, so I was happy that our 30 minute walk was over. Overall, it was a beautiful afternoon with friends and iNaturalist!

A Trip to Houghton Garden

I walked over to Houghton Garden from campus and was surprised how little time it took! How did I not know this little garden was here? When I was almost there, I saw some wild turkeys and was happy I was able to take a photo. The area itself was lovely and quiet besides the occasional sound of the T rushing by. There were some beautiful wild flowers next to stone benches to sit on. I was almost nervous to walk on the wood and stone bridges that crossed the water, but when I safely crossed I had a better view of the algae growing on the water. A lot of the trees were labeled with their classification, which was interesting, but I avoided photographing those since it would take away from the point of iNaturalist. Some of the threes had really cool above ground roots that I had to take a photo of. Overall, it was a beautiful afternoon with lovely weather for a great nature walk.
