BioBlitz - June 10, 2017

Completed a great day at Sage and Sparrow Conservation Area, west of Osoyoos, in the highlands. Great team of experts ensured this was an absolutely pleasant experience for myself, and if I can speak for the other participants, I think we all enjoyed the day.

Thanks to Don Gayton, Lauren Meads, Dick Cannings, and Doug Brown. Doug in particular wasn't able to contain his enthusiasm at times, when he discovered something of interest or importance. He was really helpful at capturing numerous types of butterflies for me to photograph and document. Don, with the occasional help of his dog-eared plant book, pointed out many different varieties of plants, and was kind enough to pluck many and hold them up to help me photograph them. Dick was great as usual, relying on his vast knowledge of birds and other creatures, and even though he might have struggled once or twice trying to remember some variety of bug or bird, the fact that he seems to be able to draw on his memory alone for this, rather than a booklet, is simply astonishing to me. Lauren was able to provide some hours of her time, accompanying us into the highlands, before having to turn back to head home. I appreciate all their efforts, and am grateful they were able to participate as they have, for this version of the BioBlitz.
