I'm making a bot that retrieves information from iNat and other sites for naturalists, helping us learn & talk about what we're seeing out there. Come join the Unofficial iNat Discord and find out what that's all about: https://discord.gg/C57VKVU . I'm @SyntheticBee there & can be found on channel #bot-stuff if you want to play the bot or talk to me about it. See also this tutorial for an introduction to its features: https://forum.inaturalist.org/t/how-to-use-dronefly-a-discord-chat-bot/9770 .

My Discord PFP is this Leafcutter bee (Megachile) from late September: https://inaturalist.ca/observations/35282003

Current fave taxa include bees, syrphids, beetles, spiders, arthropods in general, lichens, birds. Not an expert in any of these, but am eager to learn & take on new challenges.

Thanks to my parents for encouraging us as kids to be curious about the natural world! I'm sure that's why, later in life, I started reconnecting more with nature. Then ending up here with iNat was pretty much inevitable.

I serve on the board of the Woodens River Watershed Environmental Organization https://wrweo.ca/ as secretary & tech guy, and am active as a volunteer steward of The Bluff Wilderness Hiking Trail, our most important work. iNat helps involve our users & to promote research efforts to help carry out this work. See https://inaturalist.ca/projects/the-bluff-wilderness-hiking-trail , a project I'm trying to get off the ground.

BugGuide is pretty much *the* place for insects and their relatives. I recently joined but haven't contributed much yet: https://bugguide.net/user/benarmstrong

Some of my nature and photography stuff ends up here, https://www.facebook.com/SynrG .

For many years I volunteered as a developer for the excellent Debian GNU/Linux operating system. I haven't kept up with it recently, but would be happy to get reinvolved again down the road if the right opportunity presented itself.
