I am a Biology Professor at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. With my classes, we collect native animal and plant species and perform DNA barcoding to identify the species. We primarily collect from our ranch (undergoing habitat restoration), but students have brought in samples from other parts of the USA as well. Barcodes are done on either a photosystem gene (plants) or a mitochondrial gene (animal), and are available on GenBank.
