Interested as a child. Joined Scarborough Field Naturalists about 1968. Left office work to start as a Forestry Commission Ranger in 1976, managing recreation, wildlife and archaeology. Ended up as a regional 'ecologist' for FC before retiring in 2010. Good all rounder but with many gaps. Specialised more in habitat understanding, habitat network creation than any individual group.

Now retired but still out there surveying in North Yorkshire Forests (and California - when I get the chance!)
