This morning at the trails in Diamond Bar, one of the most northernmost populations of a Special Species of Concern: the Red Diamond Rattlesnake, has been verified! After sighting a Coastal Whiptail, several tansversing Mule Deer, and very intact woodlands of S. CA. Black Walnuts & Coast Live Oaks, this site is on the road to hopefully permanent protections! More info on this treasured species can be seen here: http://www.californiaherps.com/snakes/pages/c.ruber.html

They have been verified here for a number of years now, and this area has been updated with the State directly, when I reviewed the species of concern ranges. It really is amazing they stayed hidden for so long there. I have a herper friend that didn't know they where on the hill behind his house, until I asked how may Ruber he saw on it. He said "Ruber?" a week later he hiked one up.
Very interesting isn't it, even the iNaturalist network didn't have the range extend this far for the Red Diamond Rattlesnake!
The H.E.R.P (naherp.com) network has many records from here for years though, because the users of that database are herpers.
