I know this trail so well - they appeared exactly where I remembered them....
Fantastic species. Usually always seen on this trail.
A pleasure to watch this glorious percher - not found in San Francisco County.
Found a glorious spot to watch creekside mud-puddling.
These guys are usually found higher up beyond Deer Flats. They appeared much lower today...
Beautiful, fresh one near it Stinging Nettle host.
FINALLY hit this species. Usually see it on the early counts, but this early spring made me nervous...
Took me three seasons when I began this decades ago to find this. Today I hit the height of the flight with more than ever.
Couldn't believe my luck. Just basking there.
Watched him later when I came back down the trail chase another one off...
Host tree for Two-tailed Tiger Swallowtail
Who doesn't love seeing these guys?
Only place to truly observe this - the largest butterfly in the U.S. - up close when it comes to mud. Flies high in the canopy
