New project automatically collects records

Just an update that the iNat team rolled out today changes to the collection project model which support using annotations in the collection project model. This means that a collection project can be set up to automatically find all records where the life stage is set to larva.

I have converted the project over to a collection project and added this 'Life Stage = Larva' rule which now means all records submitted to iNaturalist of lepidoptera in Ontario which are marked as larva will automatically be added to the project. This means no need to add records to the project manually any longer.

If you are a member of the project, any records will show their belonging to the project on their observation page.

Just in time for the end of lep season 😒

Although I guess we could be in Calgary and under 30 centimeters of snow.

Nice. Thanks!

Just checked and the total number of observations is now 6,359. But when I scroll through the observation list, it stops at September 23, 2018 submission date...maybe still propagating the data?

@barbara_taylor - I think it is OK, I see records up to and including today. There really should be no lag or propagation of records, functionally these collection projects are saved searches with a fancy interface.

Note the default sort of records is from when they are submitted, not the observed date, but if you click to view all and change from grid to list, you can sort by observed date.

When I sort by submission date starting with today (Oct. 3, 2018) at the top, I can only scroll down to Sept. 23, 2018 submission dates.

When I sort by submission date starting with the oldest date at the top (April 19, 2010), I can only scroll down to May 21, 2016.

I can’t find any obvious way to see the rest of the observations. With Caterpillars of Eastern North America, when I scroll to the bottom of the observation list there is a place at the bottom to select more pages. But that page selection box doesn’t appear at the bottom in Caterpillars of Ontario...the observations just end as explained above.

I don't know why they've hidden the navigation, but rather than clicking on grid or list, click on the most right button - search and that basically opens the same page but with the page navigation enabled.

Got it. Thanks.

Thanks for creating this project. I find it quite interesting to look at the reports of caterpillars, especially of moths.

The only shame is that iNat defaults to showing a photo of an adult moth/butterfly when you click on the 350 reported species, instead of a vetted photo of the larva of that species or one of the photos from the ON observations.

(I guess I am used to BugGuide where you can select adult or caterpillar to see just the photos of the larva.)

I think the Guide will provide something similar it just would have been fun to gloat at the photos just by clicking on Species.

Thanks for creating this!
