According to reports, the banyan tree in Lahaina was saved and still stands. Arborists worked to aerate the soil which brought air, water, and nutrients to the tree roots.
When I started this project I was not thinking of this in terms of conservation or archiving information about culturally significant trees. Now I think there may be some actual value to this.

These projects also kind of remind me of those "photo frame" stands that are set up in natural areas sometimes, where they encourage you to set your phone in a bracket and upload the resulting picture with a particular tag to track the same scene over time.
