The iNaturalist City Nature Challenge ran April 26-29 this year. I had a personal goal of getting 400 observations over the weekend, and barely pulled it off with 403. I saw a total of 96 species (100 was within reach, if I knew a couple more plants and didn't miss a butterfly) out of 148 total. 76 of those species were birds. Some sparrows, warblers, and shorebirds were on their way through. There was a Western Tanager on the second day, a lifer for me. I made a blog update about the challenge at Hudsonii Art.
You can view the results for the 2024 challenge. We got 121 more observations than the 2023 challenge but had 9 less species. Some notable species I missed include Ruddy Duck, Ruby-crowned Kinglet, Great Blue Heron, American Goldfinch, and Red-breasted Merganser.
The hawk.
