@najera_tutor our external plant authority - Kew's Plants of the World Online (POWO) - recognizes Nicotiana tabacum as a valid species. http://plantsoftheworldonline.org/taxon/urn:lsid:ipni.org:names:817077-1

KEW's POWO is archaic, but well in this case it doesn't do much harm

@najera_tutor I think consistency is important for now (or at least for me as a curator). However, I will contact Kew at some point to address this issue.
