Flora and Fauna (Sunflower) Journal Entry

The Helianthus Annuus, also known as the common sunflower, is situated in the Helianthus genus, which is in the Asteraceae Family, Asterales Order, and Magnoliopsida class. Which is a section in the magnoliophyta division, also known as the flowering plant, which falls under all the seed plants, known as the spermatophyta superdivision, under the subkingdom, tracheobionta, called vascular plants, as well as the plantae kingdom, which encompasses all plants; plants are a part of the Eukaryotes Domain, which falls under Archaea and Eukaryotes, and falls in all of life.

Since there is a wide variety of species from the different locations, it is difficult for all the species to have a common adaptation. Since the species thrive in different environments, eukaryotes have adapted to their environment in different locations around the world, for example, species in British Columbia have adapted to the wet environment, however species in California have adapted to the burnt environment, by triggering the release of seeds during wildfires.

One adaptation of the common sunflower, Helianthus Annuus, is that since young sunflowers require complete exposure to the sun during growth, they have adapted to turn towards the sun the entire day, east in the morning, and west in the afternoon.
